Abstract

The authors describe the behavior of a multiprocessor system as a continuous-time Markov chain and associate a reward rate (performance measure) with each state. They evaluate the distribution of performability for analytical models of two multiprocessor systems using a recently developed polynomial-time algorithm that obtains the distribution of performability for nonrepairable as well as repairable systems with heterogeneous components. Examples indicate that distributions of cumulative performance measures over finite intervals reveal behavior of multiprocessor systems not indicated by the steady-state values alone.
